Where Are The Avengers During 'WandaVision'?

The events transpiring on WandaVision will have lasting repercussions on the universe, and they’re so far-reaching that the MCU Avengers should be there by now. The Hex, specifically, expanded from the size of a small town to double its original radius. That development alone should be reason enough for the superheroes to intervene. Yet, that isn't the case.

Yes, despite happening not long after the climax of Avengers: Endgame, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are absent. It’s reasonable to assume Rhodey (Don Cheadle) and the others close to Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) are grieving, while the space-bound heroes are off-planet. But one Avenger, in particular, can still make his way to Westview, Stephen Strange.

In case anyone is unaware, Strange is teaming—or fighting—with Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) in the Doctor Strange sequel. How the two wind up in the same feature is still up for debate, but considering what is happening with Scarlet Witch in her reality-warped home, they’ll likely become master and apprentice because of Wanda’s actions in Westview. She needs someone to show her the ropes and the ethical concerns of altering reality and manipulating people. And who better than Stephen Strange?

Doctor Strange Cameo

Speaking of, the Sorcerer Supreme might drop in for a small cameo. In an interview, Olsen teased that WandaVision Season 1 would feature a massive MCU cameo, which could be Cumberbatch. Fans assumed the actress was teasing Evan Peters before taking over as Pietro, but that may be a red herring. Marvel's writers are being clever about where the plot is going, and a surprise appearance by Strange would be right up their alley. Let’s not forget the company kept news of Mark Hamill reprising his role as Luke Skywalker on The Mandalorian a secret until the very end, after all.

The way things are playing out on WandaVision also suggests outside intervention will be necessary to stop Wanda’s deranged simulation. SWORD has proven unsuccessful, and the Agents under Director Hayward (Josh Stamberg) transformed into carnies in the latest episode, putting them out of contention as solutions to the Wanda problem. They may intervene again, but it seems highly unlikely that Hayward will put the Scarlet Witch down.

Some audiences might also guess Agent Woo (Randall Park) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) will play a part in bringing the Hex down, but neither is packing the firepower needed for the job. Monica could begin exhibiting some level of photon-based abilities, allowing her to make a stand. Although, a rookie superhero cannot handle a member of the Avengers alone.

With S.W.O.R.D. and the renegade Agents ruled out as potential saviors, the door is open for Doctor Strange to enter the fray. He possesses the power necessary to tackle the Scarlet Witch and is the only one who can reverse any changes that disrupt the fabric of time and space. The point is, Strange representing the Avengers and handling Wanda could be the plan for the last episodes of WandaVision. It's just a matter of waiting for his arrival.
