Son of Barney Creator Charged with Attempted Murder

Barney may have serenaded the world to love each other but the son of the show’s creator apparently didn’t get the memo.

Patrick Leach, son of the executive producer of “Barney & Friends,” is being charged with attempted murder of a 49-year-old man in Malibu Calif., the Los Angeles County District Attorney told TMZ. He was also reportedly charged with one count of assault with a semi-automatic firearm.

The son of the “Barney & Friends” creator pled not guilty Tuesday to allegedly shooting his neighbor, Eric Shanks, in their luxury two-share complex in January, Malibu Patch reports. The neighbors reportedly had an argument over a “trespassing issue” before Leach fled the scene in a black SUV, but was later spotted by police before being arrested.

His mother, Sheryl, who founded the popular children’s show in the 1990s, was reportedly one of the first on the block and had a residence there for at least 40 years.

Leach is currently out on $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
