Easter Candy 2019: Fluffy Bunny Bars, Shimmer Eggs, More

Finally, an excuse to eat sweets! Easter is on Sunday, April 21, and the holiday brings with it a perfectly valid reason to feast on chocolate bunnies, candy eggs and much more.

This year, it safe to say that many food brands totally stepped up their game. For example, though Easter-themed Reese’s candies are nothing new, the candy company elevated its offerings in 2019 by releasing, for the first time ever, an egg-shaped peanut butter cup stuffed with Reese’s Pieces candy. It doesn’t get much tastier than that!

Another brand commonly associated with Easter, Peeps, gave its colorful marshmallow chicks a carnival-esque twist this year by releasing a pink and blue cotton candy-flavored version of the baby bird treats. And though they may be made almost entirely of sugar, these fluffy confections contain just 28 calories a piece. In other words, you don’t need to feel too guilty about marking the holiday with a few of these apropos candies.

When developing its Easter candy slate for this year, Mars Wrigley looked across the pond for some inspiration. The brand’s line of Shell Smashers, which is available exclusively at Walmart, is based on the European tradition of breaking open a hallow chocolate egg on Easter morning. In this case, these chocolate hatchlings, which are designed to be broken open, are filled with either fun-sized M&M’s, Snickers, or Twix.
