Smith’s friend, Missy Byrum, claimed that her prescription drug addiction began after breast augmentation surgery in her early twenties.

Byrum named the drugs Vicodin, Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, and Lortabs as part of Anna’s drug abuse. 

She also stated that Anna was taking these drugs since the time of her surgery, and she could do nothing to stop it.

Missy claimed that in the early 1990s, Anna was a “full-blown drug addict,” and according to some reports, in 1994, she had survived an accidental overdose in a Hollywood hotel room.

Smith’s prescription drug addiction took her life. On February 8, 2007, she was dead in a hotel room.

The forensic pathologist and Broward County Medical Examiner, Joshua Perper, led the investigation of Anna Nicole Smith death and concluded that she died of “combined drug intoxication.”

She also had a bacterial infection from injecting medications into her body’s rear end.

Perper said that Smith died due to combined drug intoxication with the sleeping medicine chloral hydrate as the main factor.

Smith had been taking a long list of medicines, including methadone for valium and pain, but those medications were at a therapeutic level.

However, Chloral hydrate is a sedative used to treat alcohol withdrawal and insomnia, ease post-surgery pain, and relieve anxiety.

Dr. Chip Walls, a forensic toxicologist for the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami, said that the medicine is rarely prescribed and is known to be fatal if combined with other drugs, including the sedative Lorazepam, which the Anna Nicole Smith autopsy proved that she was taking.

Perper shared that she also had been on multiple antianxiety and antidepressant drugs and had taken longevity medicines, vitamin B12, and growth hormone.

According to an assistant medical examiner’s report, a table in Anna’s hotel room contained SlimFast, an open box of Tamiflu tablets, soda cans, cold medicine, and nicotine gum.
